Everything is ready to celebrate the WAAC 2014 in the Slovak Republic

The Slovak Republic will be the venue of a prestigious aviation and sports event: the FAI WORLD ADVANCED AEROBATIC CHAMPIONSHIP 2014.

This 11th World Championship shall take place at Dubnica nad Váhom Airport, located in the village of Slavnica in the Trenčín region.

It will be held from August 7th to August 17th, and will be organised by Aero Club Dubnica nad Váhom –one of the best Slovak aero clubs, which in the past have already organized several successful top international aviation events,  including powered and gliding aerobatics.

According to Robert Slosiar, flight director of the event, the 2014 World Championship shall start on August 7 following this programme:

- Thursday 7th August

6.00 p.m. Opening ceremony of the 11th FAI WAAC 2014

8.00 a.m. Opening briefing for competing pilots

- From August 7th to August 16th  

      09.00 a.m. - 7 p.m. Competition flights of the World Championship

- Saturday August 16th

     4.00 p.m.   Award ceremony and closing of the Championship

- Sunday August 17th                                                                 

Competitors departure

The following 18 countries have already registered:Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Ukraine, the USA and the Slovak Republic, being 72 the total amount of pilots.It is estimated that 32 aircraft will gather at Dubnica's airport, mostly Extra, S-Bach, Sukhois, CAP and Zlin.

Most of the participating pilots are professional air force and civil pilots trained for this special aviation sport.

The Slovak Republic will be represented by one competing pilot: Ralf Singmann on aircraft of French provenience CAP-231.

The competition will run over the Dubnica airport in Slavnica within the competition area –a cube measuring 1000 x 1000 x 1000 meters, so-called “aerobatic competition box“within which the competing pilot must remain during all aerobatic figures.

The speed achieved by pilots in the aforementioned figures is up to 400 km/h while enduring a G-force up to + 9G.An international jury comprising up to 20 experts will appraise the achievements of the pilots. It has to be mentioned that the spectators will be free of charge during the whole event.

The last Advanced World Aerobatic Championship was held in Hungary in 2013. Anton Berkutov from Russia was proclaimed world champion after beating the French pilot Simon de la Breteche, being the latter 2nd and his teammate Romain Fhal 3rd.

Concerning team results, France won the gold medal, Russia got the silver one and the United States the bronze.
